Letters 469: For One More Day

Oscar Wilde once said:

"“You don't love someone for their looks, or their clothes, or for their fancy car, but because they sing a song only you can hear.”

To whom I haven't met yet,

Now you must excuse my short letter today. As you can guess, I have been a little busier than usual for almost two weeks & together with the present weather conditions, one hasn' the spirit to sit down & write letters.

Believe it or not, the only place for me to get a good rest will be in cafe where I took my daily lunch. Try & write yourself someday with the old grandmother & grandfather sitting next to you. Candidly, these are the worst month of the year for me & there is a lot more can be said about the weird weather pattern. However in spite of all these trials, I am perfectly well & so far have had no ill effects from the weather. The hot tomyum that I ate for the past few days is a big help!

Anyway, many stories shared over a cup of tea may not be retold at our memorial, but they are stories that truly matter. People said I am stupid because I wrote 469 letters to you with a hope that it will be part of your step in knowing me just a little bit more one day. But little did they know that in letters like these, my words are truly the perfect way that can zoom into the smallest of detail or capture the panaromic view in a beautiful way.

Dear you, have you ever woke up all alone late at night wondering what the future holds & suddenly you received a message from someone that reassured you that all would be well? Or how about when you were so deeply crushed to pieces by someone in relationship & out of nowhere, you received supportive message by strangers?

These are the real words in our lives. My life. As I read my previous letters for you, I am grateful because I am blessed in every way possible by God. These are the kinds of stories I like to tell you because in the writing, I know I have a life well lived.

Until then, have yourself a beautiful life too, hummingbird.

For long after the tears have stopped flowing, long after the eloquent letters are forgotten, it is those act of love from me that I hope will live in you, forever more.

For the other half of the sky,

The Half Moon Serenades.

Letters 468: Of Tears, Soul & Rainbow

Victor Hugo once said:

"The greatest happiness of life is the conviction that we are loved; loved for ourselves, or rather, loved in spite of ourselves."

To whom I haven't met,

Well, the weather today was rather wet & breezy. The truth is that it could be termed 'vile'. Everything is wet, including myself as I left my umbrella in the car while going for a walk at the Air Hitam Dam. The only bright spot is the fact that the heavy rain looks like being finished pretty soon.

For some people, they will try their best to stay at the comfort of their own home especially during the public holiday like today Vesak Day. But I guess I am not that kind of person. It is better for us to come & get the chance to meet people rather than being stuck in the house. Every moment in any public area is fresh & unpredictable. I can bump into people have not met for a long time or come across something interesting that cheers me up when life seems to kick me at the butt.

Dear you, I have always believed that nothing happens by chance. Some religious people call it divine appointment but it is this six degrees connection of one human to another that opens up the myriad of possibilities. Through such encounters, we will learn that the world is quite small, smaller than you ever thought once when we start connecting the dots. In fact we will learn that the person we have just met is actually not quite a stranger after all.

I hope you will learn that the world we live in is a wonderful place because the people make it so my hummingbird. You would smile if you were where I am now. I can honestly say that I am well now & I hope you will be the same too. Until then, may God bless you in every way possible in life.

If the life had no tears, then the soul would have no rainbow. Be patience, I am with you.

For the other half of the sky,

The Half Moon Serenades.

Letters 467: Love Without Barriers

Maya Angelou once said:

"Love recognise no barriers. It jumps hurdles, leaps fences, penetrates walls to arrive at its destination full of hope."

To whom I haven't met yet,
For some, there seems to be some missing ingredient. Something that makes the lives of others appear joyous, almost giddy, by comparison. While they struggle to bear each day, those around them seem to glide through life unscathed.

While it might sound cliche, the missing ingredient is love

To be loved is only a part of the missing ingredient. Rarely will love be found if one doesn't risk everything & offer this most tender emotion to others. All around us are people in need of compassion. A friendly smile, a gentle word of encouragement, help in a time of need. A bond is established, no matter how insignificant it might seem. From these brief moments, true relationships can blossom. Even if these encounters never develop into anything more than a fleeting memory, they add texture and meaning to our lives.
Dear you, love is not purely a human emotion. Love comes from God above. He made us in His image, for His pleasure. It is His desire to shower us with His love, even when we haven't loved Him in return. There is no greater joy than to know the love of God and extend it back to Him. An eternal bond is created that transcends the physical limits of our universe. Regardless of our religion, whether Islam or Christian, we shared a common bond when it comes to love.

        In Bible for example:
"Therefore be imitators of God as dear children. And walk in love, as Christ also has loved us and given Himself for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet-smelling aroma." Ephesians 5:1-2
There is no greater purpose in life than to love and be loved, by God and men. Nothing else can fill the void that exists inside our hearts when we look to the world, its temptations and its material rewards, to make us whole. Anything less than love will leave us lost, weary, alone and deserted.
        In Al-Quran for example:

"And of His Signs is that He created mates for you from yourselves that you might find peace of mind in them, and He put between you love and compassion." Al - Anbiyaa 30:21.

As such, regardless of our religions or races, lets celebrate the beauty of love because we are one my hummingbird.

I believe that love is like a snow floating into my life. It didn't carry rain or usher storm, but adding color into my sky. One day, you will be the other half of my sky

Yours truly,

The Half Moon Serenades.

Letters 466: The Pursuit of Happines IV

Lucius Annaeus Seneca once said:

"True happiness is to enjoy the present without anxious dependence upon the future."

To whom I haven't met yet,

For me, no amount of cash can buy a true happiness. People are perpetually seeking happiness, but few have been able to find it. This is perhaps because we tend to look for happiness in things that we believe will bring us happiness, but in actuality do not.

Happiness is a flash that lights up our lives. It is indefinable emotion that comes & goes. True happiness is the inner sense of freedom, peace, security and satisfaction we feel when we decide to live our life fully; to give & make every moment count.

Happiness is more than just living a special moment, it is what we feel as a result of how we see life. It's a state of consciousness that inspires us, gives us balance & generates a pleasure within us that acts out with a smiling face.

Dear you, the real secret of happy people is that they have the ability to add & multiply, rather than divide or subtract. It's a transformation from the seemingly negative into the positive, or of the impossible to the possible.

Most of us are addicted to negative thoughts & feelings that we have had for years. These turn into chronic habits that have a chemical effect on our bodies that end up ruining our emotional life. It is therefore vital to manage the thoughts that cause these changes, and let go of the negativism game. Believing that external changes will automatically bring one happiness is a very dangerous trap that actually prevents us from being happy.

Why should we only be happy "IF" we get a new car, job, baby, marriage, divorce, new relationship, home, or the ideal body? If we are not happy now, none of these other things will make us happy unless we stop the addiction to negativity.

Let's stop postponing our happiness & start being consciously happy now hummingbird.

There will be time when I am acting as cold as ice, there will be a time when I am quite busy with my work, but one thing for sure, you will always be the source of my happiness.

Letters 465: Colours of Destiny

F. Scott Fitzgerald once said:

"There are all kinds of love in this world but never the same love twice."

To whom I haven't met yet,

Whenever I'm free in the morning, I usually walk around the lush green field of Penang Botanical Gardens.  It was on one such trip when I met this old man pushing an old woman on a wheelchair. Most of the times, I exchanged smiles with them, after which bid each other good bye & I went my way. I also found out they were married for more than 50 years & I deduced she was wheelchair bound for quite a long time.

One day,  I realized the man was squatting in front of the wheel chair, massaging the woman’s feet. The care with which he did it, as if he were touching something sacred, the gentleness with which he spoke to her, as would a mother speaking to her only child, all that struck a cord within my spirit. I stood there mesmerized about how lovely this old couple.

Now I don’t know how far those two have come to get where they are today, what quarrels, arguments they’d had, but somehow, they never lost sight of what mattered most. That & the fact that they probably dealt with their mutual challenges in a way that made love blossom in their lives.

It might not even have been ‘they’, sometimes it just takes one person to not lose sight of what matters during the thick of things and to sacrifice a bit of their ego, to give love a chance to grow further. They serve as a reminder to us, that romantic fairy tales do exist. Perhaps, the best love in our life, is the love that waiting patiently for us at home, the one who will love you forever & always.

Dear hummingbird, I hope one day, we can always be like them, perhaps much better. I will love you not just because for who you are only, but for who I am when I am with you. I am looking forward to a better future for us because I believe in my destiny.

If you ever lost along the way, follow the stars home.

To destiny,

The Half Moon Serenades.
