The Pursuit of Happiness

Leo Tolstoy once said:

"If you want to be happy, be."

Happiness is ephemeral, subject to the vagaries of everything from the weather to the size of your bank account.

I'm not suggesting that you can reach a permanent state called “happiness” and remain there. But there are many ways to swerve off the path of anxiety, anger, frustration, and sadness into a state of happiness once or even several times throughout the day.

1. Practice mindfulness.

Be in the moment. Instead of worrying about your checkup tomorrow while you have dinner with your family, focus on the here and now — the food, the company, the conversation.

2. Laugh out loud.

Just anticipating a happy, funny event can raise levels of endorphins and other pleasure-inducing hormones and lower production of stress hormones. Take for example, watching your favorite comedy movies with your loves one.

3. Go to sleep.

We have become a nation of sleep-deprived citizens. Taking a daily nap or getting into bed at 8 p.m. one night with a good book — and turning the light out an hour later — can do more for your mood and outlook on life than any number of bubble baths or massages.

4. Hum along.

Music soothes more than the savage beast. The fact is music activates parts of the brain that produce happiness — the same parts activated by food or sex. It’s also relaxing.

5. Just say no.

Eliminate activities that aren’t necessary and that you don’t enjoy. If there are enough people already to handle the work and you’re feeling stressed by the thought of running any society for yet another year, step down and let someone else handle things.

6. Make a list.

There’s nothing like writing down your tasks to help you organize your thoughts and calm your anxiety. Checking off each item provides a great sense of fulfillment.

7. Do one thing at a time.

Instead of talking on the phone while you fold laundry or clean the kitchen, sit down in a comfortable chair and turn your entire attention over to the conversation. Instead of checking e-mail as you work on other projects, turn off your e-mail function until you finish the report you’re writing. This is similar to the concept of mindfulness.

8. Garden.

Not only will the fresh air and exercise provide their own stress reduction and feeling of well-being, but the sense of accomplishment that comes from clearing a weedy patch, watching seeds turn into flowers, or pruning out dead wood will last for hours, if not days.

9. Scent the air.

Research finds that the benefits of aromatherapy in relieving stress are real. In one study people exposed to rosemary had lower anxiety levels, increased alertness, and performed math computations faster. Adults exposed to lavender showed an increase in the type of brain waves that suggest increased relaxation. Today you have a variety of room-scenting methods, from plug-in air fresheners to essential oil diffusers, potpourri, and scented candles.

10. Visit a quiet place.

Libraries, museums, gardens, and places of worship provide islands of peace and calm in today’s frantic world. Find a quiet place near your house and make it your secret getaway.
11. Volunteer.

Helping others enables you to put your own problems into perspective and also provides social interaction. While happy people are more likely to help others, helping others increases your happiness.

12. Spend time alone.

Although relationships are one of the best antidotes to stress, sometimes you need time alone to recharge and reflect. Take yourself out to lunch or to a movie, or simply spend an afternoon reading, browsing in a bookstore, or antiquing.

13. Walk mindfully.

You probably already know that exercise is better than tranquilizers for relieving anxiety and stress. But what you do with your mind while you’re walking can make your walk even more beneficial.

14. Give priority to close relationships.

Women, and to a lesser extent men, also seemed to benefit from good relationships with their parents and spouses. Studies also find that people who feel lonely, depressed, and isolated are three to five times more likely to get sick and die prematurely than those who have feelings of love, connection, and community.

15. Take care of the soul.

For many people faith provides a support community, a sense of life’s meaning, feelings of ultimate acceptance, a reason to focus beyond yourself, and a timeless perspective on life’s woes. Even if you’re not religious, a strong spirituality may offer similar benefits.

Well, perhaps what you really need to do is count your blessings. People who pause each day to reflect on some positive aspect of their lives (their health, friends, family, freedom, education, etc.) experience a heightened sense of well-being.

And believe me, a groovy kind of love is just around the corner for people who believe in it.

The Art of Confidence In Heart

Robert Louis Stevenson once said:
"A great part of life consists in contemplating what we cannot cure."

One of the most common problems with individuals today is that they do not believe in themselves.

Many people constantly doubt their abilities, skills, talents, opinions, and numerous other aspects that makes them who they are. For these individuals, a lot of precious time is wasted on this demeaning method of thinking.

If you are looking to improve yourself, your life, the way that others see you, and the way that you see yourself, it is important to understand the importance of believing in yourself. If you miss the opportunity of accomplishing this very important goal, you will continue to miss opportunities all through your life.

When a person believes in their abilities, skills, talents, and value, they also develop a new logic to life. They understand that for every action there is definitely a reaction, however, each reaction can be a positive and fulfilling experience.

These individuals have a high level of self-confidence, they are usually quite motivated, and they understand the power of positive thinking.

Here, you will discover a couple of ways that you can create a positive self-belief. If you are looking to improve yourself, your life, and the general circumstances of your life, this article is for you!

One of the first methods of learning to believe in yourself is learning to take a close look at yourself and being able to identify the potential that you have.

Many individuals experience many negative situations throughout their life that may lead them to believe that they pose no value to themselves or others. Usually, these thoughts are created by listening to the harsh assumptions and words of an individual who is relatively close – such as a friend, or a family member.

As a result of these negative assumptions and harsh words, a person may start to actually believe what others are saying. It is important to understand that everyone has a right to their opinions, but these opinions are often only one viewpoint. Furthermore, many opinions are wrong.

One of the second methods of learning to believe in yourself is to overcome the obstacle of fear. Many individuals are frightened to attempt a new challenge or task because they are afraid of failing and not succeeding.

However, any individual with a high level of self worth will quickly inform you that it is better to try, fail, and learn to succeed than it is to not try, failing, and not learning to succeed.

If you are able to keep in mind that failing is just another form of winning, you are creating a strong belief in yourself. Those that fail in the attempts that they make will learn from the mistakes of the attempt. However, those that never try to attempt anything at all will stagnate in their personal growth.

The third method to building the belief of yourself is to challenge yourself. In order to do this, you should establish a list of items that you are thoroughly convinced that you are unable to do. Once you do this, you should start tackling each task, one by one. You will quickly find that you are able to do much more than you ever imagined that you could.

Soon, you will discover that the list that you initially created is getting smaller and smaller. This is a great way to prove to yourself that you do offer something to yourself, your friends, your family, and your world. This will help you establish the ability to believe in yourself.

Perhaps a groovy kind of life is just around the corner for you.

To you whom I haven't met yet, life sometimes cuts like a knife. But I do believe that it can be heal from time to time. Maybe we need a miracle for it to happen or maybe we just need to discover it in ourselves.

I am waiting for you to appear in my life one day. The day I finally found you, that will be one of the happiest day in my life. The feeling of having you so close to my heart, I can't really described it.
I hope you can take the darkness in my heart away, making it a fun and happy place again. But at the same time, I will make sure I love you more and more each day as time goes by.

Did you know, that love is like an ocean overflowing, and I won't kept it in my heart. I will make you a happy girl one day. Until then, put in your heart the fact that I had fallen in love with you way before we knew each other. Perhaps a groovy kind of love is just around the corner for us.

Loving you forevermore,

Love & Forgiveness

Terri Guillemets once said:

"The past is behind us, but love is in front and around us."
How can these two words, love and forgiveness change your whole perspective on life? First, you must put your trust in something bigger than yourself. You may call it Allah, Jesus, Buddha or whatever your faith is, trust that it has a bigger plan (could it be a lesson in forgiveness?) than your everyday troubles.

What is the most important lesson you can learn while here on earth? Love and Forgiveness. But how do you get to the Love part if you have hatred in your heart?
Forgive. It sounds so simple and yet it can be the most difficult thing that you can do in this lifetime.

You were wronged or someone betrayed you, how can you let that go? Forgive. Forgive and it will set your heart free.

Here are some steps that can get you there.

Feel your anger, feel your sadness, feel whatever it is you need to get all those emotions out, write it down and then throw it away.

Give yourself a certain timeframe in which you will no longer continue to go on with those emotions. Now comes the hard part, trying to convince yourself that the other person deserves to be forgiven.

Every time this hurt comes into your heart, say to yourself "I forgive "name" for what they have done". Every time you start to go over the scenario, and start to get angry or sad, instead replace it with "I forgive "name" for what they have done". You might not believe what you are saying at first.

But sending that message out into the universe will eventually help break the chain of black energy that links you together with an invisible line of hate.

Hopefully it will hit you one day. You can let it go, the hate, the anger, the betrayal, how you were wronged and in a peaceful loving moment truly feel that forgiveness.

The best possible way to break the chain of hate that connects you by an invisible link, is to stand and face this person and truly believing and feeling in your heart what you are about to say to them. "No matter what you have done to me, I forgive you" It i  s truly disarming, and can break that link that binds you. That's it! It may be a long and hard task to get to that one simple line.

What does it feel like? Once you have set each other free, your heart feels lighter, you have an overwhelming feeling of peace. You suddenly understand it all, the reason you are here, the lessons that you need to learn while on this earth plane.

You will never be the same, because in every situation you can begin to feel compassion, humility and gratitude toward your fellow travelers here on earth. You can LOVE again. You are a radiant being moving forward in life.
And perhaps a groovy kind of love is just around the corner for you.

To you whom I haven't met yet, countless of days passed by without having you in my life. Maybe time is the answer to this puzzling wait in my heart.

Sometimes, people is taking love for granted in their life, but I believed with all my heart that love always come softly.

When it came into our life, it will melt the hardest of the hard heart, and the strongest of the strong soul.

That's what I felt about you. Maybe it wasn't my destiny to meet you in the near future or maybe you are around me and I am just stupid enough to not noticing it. But as time goes by, I hope you will appear in my life.

Who am I but just a normal person who is waiting for someone to love, but put in your heart the fact that I had fallen in love with you way before we knew each other. Perhaps this is what I called a groovy kind of love.

You are the other half of my sky,

The Half Moon Serenades.
